with fabulous folk-singer Sam Lee
For one night only, and in conjunction with The Nest Collective , we’re offering the wonderful chance to spend an evening with Mercury Prize-nominated folk singer, Sam Lee, serenading our nightingales at Knepp.
The evening kicks off with a simple but delicious vegetarian campfire supper and a gentle introduction to the nightingale’s story – its role in our folklore, music, poetry and art, and its alarming decline in the present day. Learn about the life-cycle of this remarkable bird and its extraordinary spring migration to our shores from sub-Saharan Africa.
After supper, walk out with Sam and Knepp’s ecologist Penny Green into the wildest and woolliest part of our rewilding project where – with luck – you’ll hear a nightingale, now one of the UK’s rarest birds, throwing its song to the skies. In the stillness of night, be entranced by a duet between man and bird, a musical performance like no other.
