We are the biggest breeding hotspot in the UK for this stunning butterfly and welcome all Purple Emperor enthusiasts during the display season (usually around the last two weeks of June and the first two weeks of July).
Please park in our carparks which is situated at:
New Barn Farm, Swallows Lane, Dial Post, RH13 8NN (field car park situated opposite the entrance to New Barn Farm)
and nowhere else on the Estate or village roads.
The price is £5 per car. Please pay at car park. You will receive a map showing our Purple Emperor route (which includes some paths only open at this time of year), master and feeder trees, plus lots of wonderful information from Purple Emperor aficionado Matthew Oates, giving you the best chance to spot Purple Emperors here.
The season can be variable depending on weather conditions etc., so do check the season’s progress on local butterfly forums before you come to avoid disappointment – especially the Purple Emperor Blog open_in_new
Please stay on the designated Purple Emperor route/public footpaths at all times and observe the Countryside Code open_in_new.
Please note the ground can be uneven, so we recommend sturdy walking boots with ankle support.
Amongst the highlights of our Purple Emperor route are our signature viewing platforms, beautifully and sturdily constructed in tall Sussex oaks.
Please note that parking is at your own risk, the management will not accept responsibility for any damage, accident or loss.
